REAL ID REQUREMENTS
TRAVEL THERE AND BACK
Is Your Identification Ready for Takeoff?
At Travel There and Back, we believe the only surprises on your trip should be the breath-taking views and the perfect glass of wine—not a fee at the security line. As your experts in curated travel, we want to ensure your journey is seamless from the moment you arrive at the airport.

New TSA Fees: February 1, 2026

Effective February 1, 2026, the TSA is introducing the TSA ConfirmID program. This is a modernized identity verification system for travelers who arrive at a security checkpoint without a REAL ID-compliant document or a valid alternative.
-
The Cost: A non-refundable $45 fee per adult (18+).
-
The 10-Day Window: Once paid, the verification is valid for 10 days. This allows for multiple flights or a standard round-trip within that timeframe. However, if your journey (such as a long river cruise or a multi-week golf tour) exceeds 10 days, you will be required to pay the fee again for your return flight.
-
Source: This information is provided directly by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You can view the official program details at tsa.gov/tsaconfirm-id.
The REAL ID Deadline: May 7, 2025

While the new fee begins in February, the official enforcement date for the REAL ID Act was May 7, 2025. Standard state-issued driver’s licenses that are not REAL ID-compliant are no longer accepted for boarding domestic flights without this additional verification and fee.

What You Need to Know
-
The Gold Star: Most REAL ID-compliant cards feature a star marking in the upper right-hand corner. If your license has this, you are ready for travel.
-
Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDL): If you reside in Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, or Vermont, you may hold an Enhanced Driver’s License. These are acceptable alternatives to REAL ID-compliant cards and do not require the $45 fee.
-
State Variations: Some states offer both compliant and non-compliant options (such as the State of Washington). It is vital to ensure yours meets federal requirements to avoid the TSA ConfirmID process.
